This is where my thriller takes form ladies and gentlemen. Using psychoanalytic research and studies I have found this. The clown. The 2016 phenomena of clown invasions across the world it made them an easy choice for my piece.

Clowns have become more of a cultural horror icon than many other things like a marionette doll or crazed prisoner.

They're an embodiment of an oxymoron originally they were jokers that brought merriment and joy. However now a general perception of clowns has shifted to mean something much more sinister. Particularly due to the actions of certain individuals; John Wayne Gacy

Louisiana state detectives are tasked with tracking down and apprehending a notorious escaped prisoner, #100594.(Ten-o-five-nine-four) Who was incarcerated declaring no name and exhibiting obvious insanity. Detective Steven Laughter ‘Happy’ lives in Montegut, Louisiana with his wife and two children; just beginning to recover from hurricane Katrina that devastated much of the south life can only seem to get better. Until the escape on the 5th of December, this is when Happy has to take up the call of duty. Always 2 steps behind the escapee Happy needs to wait for a new corpse to appear before they can find a lead. All of the killings have one similarity a forced smile carved into their faces similar to the M/O of famous past killers. Now with a serial killer on their hands the police department needs to up their game.

(Constructing flashbacks of each killing)

With every new victim Happy exhibits new feelings of anger and rage. Determined to find the prisoner he makes errors in judgement and attempts to go above his position. After being reprimanded by his Chief he steps back and accepts the possibility of losing his case. That night, the Chief is killed in the exact same way as the previous victims. With a blood note left on the wall; It’s all a joke until someone dies’ The killings have evolved now not just smiles are left, but the skin of the cheeks is removed and the nose. A phone call arrives to happy that night, with only breathing and ‘I’m just clowning around’.

Now promoted to Chief Detective Happy sets all resources to capture his victim. Insisting he be present at every crime scene himself.  Every crime scene is covered in the fingerprints of the prisoner when it came to forensic review. This trend continued until a revelation was made inside Happy’s office. A janitor was cleaning and knocked a small key off of a shelf with his mop, curiosity took over and he used the key on the always locked desk. Rumours had always flown around the station about what was in the desk, so it could not be resisted. Opening the desk revealed a small chest inside of which were 3 severed fingers and locks of hair. Panicking the janitor shut the desk and attempted to leave pretending to have seen nothing but as he looks up in the doorway stood Happy

Happy fled leaving the body in his office and now on the run other detectives search his home and make some terrifying discoveries. Happy’s wife and kids were nowhere to be seen but there was a horrific stench through the house. Searching the basement they found Happy’s wife and two kids chained up filthy and covered in their own faeces. Next to them the body of the escaped prisoner, hair pulled out and fingers removed. On his face was the clown visage in the crimes attributed to him. At this point detectives realise Happy was the killer all along.  A flashback plays of the prisoner finding out who his pursuer (Happy) is and learning the location of his home hoping to put an end to the man who was trying to get him back in prison; the flashback shows the prisoner finding Happy’s family in the basement and attempting to free them.

The detectives go to release the trapped family then one is cut from behind by a large blade wielded by a crazed man in a clown mask. The second draws his gun and shoots the attacker in the chest. However seemingly unphased the attacker continues and cuts the face of the second detective killing him instantly. Then pulling back his jumpsuit and revealing a bulletproof vest.  The first detective suffering from heavy blood loss attempts to escape however the clown stops him by standing on his leg. He pulls up the dying detective by his hair, removes his mask and says “Just be Happy” a sickening smile crept across the face of the clown now revealed to be Happy and he cuts his signature smile into the detective, then leaving the bodies in the basement with his family. As he shuts the door he holds up the mask and looks at it looking back at his family. “Smile, it’s all just a joke” Then shutting the door with his family moaning and crying through their gags.
